Our Story
The New Wellington was born from a simple idea—and a personal frustration.
As two families, we loved spending time together over good food. Like so many parents, we'd spend weekends searching for somewhere that offered great food, reasonable prices, and somewhere the children could enjoy themselves while the adults relaxed.
Time and time again, we found ourselves disappointed. There was always something missing.
That's when we asked ourselves a simple question...
Why not create the place we'd been searching for?
When the opportunity came to take on The New Wellington, we knew it wouldn't be easy. The building had been closed for some time and needed a lot of hard work, but we saw more than an empty pub, we saw the opportunity to create something truly special for our community.
One thing was especially important to us: the children.
As parents ourselves, we knew how difficult it was to find somewhere with a large, safe outdoor play area where children could have fun while parents enjoyed a meal together. Instead of settling for what was already there, we designed and built our play park from the ground up. Every decision was made with families in mind because we wanted children to create happy memories just as much as their parents.
With the support of our family and friends, we poured our hearts into renovating the building, creating a welcoming restaurant, and bringing our vision to life. It wasn't backed by a brewery or a large company—it's just us.
A local family business built through hard work, determination, and a genuine passion for hospitality.
Today, we're proud to serve homemade food using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, supporting other local farmers, suppliers, and small family businesses along the way. Every meal we serve reflects the values we started with: quality, value, and making people feel at home.
The New Wellington has become so much more than a restaurant. It's where birthdays are celebrated, families gather for Sunday carvery, friends catch up over breakfast, couples enjoy date nights, and children laugh together in the play area we dreamed of creating.

We may not have the backing of a big brewery, but what we do have is something we're incredibly proud of—a place built with love, run by family, and created for everyone to enjoy.
